Cherry is prized for fine furniture making and cabinetry and also makes beautiful floors and moldings. The moderately hard wood has a straight grain and smooth texture with occasional flecks and gum pockets. The sapwood is a warm off-white color while the heartwood ranges from a rich red to a reddish brown, both which darken over time and with exposure to light, creating a rich patina.
Cherry plywood is a very pleasing vibrant-grained species, generally pink to light reddish in color.

The heartwood of cherry varies from rich red to reddish brown and will darken on exposure to light. In contrast, the sapwood is creamy white. The wood has a fine uniform, straight grain and may naturally contain brown pith flecks and small gum pockets.
Cherry plywood is of medium density with good bending properties, it has low stiffness and medium strength and shock resistance. |
